I have a release part and I need my merchandise to a scheduled date?
When it comes to pressing vinyl records, the timeline can vary depending on several factors, including the complexity of your order, the quantity requested, and the availability of equipment and materials. Typically, the process of pressing records involves various stages such as mastering, plating, and production, which altogether takes some time to ensure the highest quality outcome.
To meet your release party deadline, it’s essential to factor in the production lead time. Generally, pressing records can take several weeks, so it’s important to plan accordingly.
What is a Lacquer plate and why do I have to pay for it?
By investing in proper lacquer mastering, you can expect superior audio reproduction, capturing the nuances and dynamics of your music faithfully. This step is crucial in maintaining the integrity and fidelity of your sound throughout the vinyl pressing process.
What is a stamper and why do I have to pay for it?
In vinyl record manufacturing, after the lacquer mastering process, the lacquer is plated to create a metal negative. This negative mould is then used to create a positive metal disc known as the stamper. The stamper serves as a precise replica of the audio information contained in the lacquer master.
During the pressing process, molten vinyl is placed between two stampers – one for each side of the record. The stampers exert extreme pressure onto the vinyl, shaping it and creating the grooves that hold the audio information. This process allows for the creation of multiple pressed vinyl records with consistent sound quality and fidelity.
Stampers are typically made from a durable metal, such as nickel or sometimes copper. They are designed to withstand the repeated use involved in the pressing process. However, stampers have a limited lifespan and can deteriorate over time due to the pressure and heat applied during pressing. Therefore, new stampers must be created periodically to maintain the quality of the pressed vinyl records.
In summary, stampers are essential components in vinyl record pressing, as they carry the audio information from the lacquer master onto the final pressed records. Their accurate replication of the grooves ensures the faithful reproduction of the music, resulting in a high quality listening experience for vinyl enthusiasts.
How many records can I press with one set of stampers?
Stampers are designed to be durable and withstand the pressing process, but they have a limited lifespan. The exact number of records that can be pressed with one set of stampers can vary depending on several factors, including the pressing equipment used, the quality of the materials, and the care taken during the pressing process.
Typically, stampers can produce about one thousand of records before they need to be replaced.
It’s worth mentioning that as stampers are used repeatedly, there is a gradual degradation in sound quality and definition over time. Therefore, pressing plants often schedule regular stamper replacements to maintain the highest quality standard for pressed records.
Can I send in my own lacquers?
We understand that some customers prefer to submit their own lacquers for vinyl pressing. While this is possible, we want to ensure that you are aware of some important considerations.
Firstly, if there is any problem with the vinyl records caused by a faulty or bad lacquer that we receive, we regret that we cannot be held responsible. However, please note that we work exclusively with highly experienced partners for the lacquer cutting process. Their expertise and attention to detail help to minimize the chances of any issues arising.
To ensure the best possible outcome and a smooth vinyl manufacturing process, we strongly advise utilising our cutting service. We have developed a close partnership with Curved Pusher, a renowned provider of cutting services, to ensure an optimized and coordinated process. By using their cutting service, you can trust that your lacquers will be handled and prepared by experts who are intimately familiar with our pressing methods.
Additionally, it’s important to mention that we exclusively use stampers produced by Vinyl Factory. These stampers are meticulously crafted and maintain the highest standards of quality. By utilising their stampers, we can ensure consistency and excellence in the vinyl pressing process.
What is the maximum recording time per side?
The maximum recording time per side of a vinyl record can vary depending on the playback speed (rpm) and the groove width used. Generally, at 33 rpm (revolutions per minute), the maximum recording time per side is around 22 minutes. This is because the slower speed allows for more grooves to be packed onto the record, accommodating longer playing times.
However, if the record is played at 45 rpm, the maximum recording time per side is typically shorter, around 12 minutes. The faster rotational speed means the grooves must be spaced further apart, resulting in a reduction in the available space for recording.
It is worth noting that the loudness of the music can be impacted by the maximum recording time. The levels can be louder, as the groove spacing can be optimised for a smaller duration. Conversely, at the maximum recording time per side, the available space for the audio is more limited, and this can result in lower overall volume levels. This is because the grooves need to be spaced out further to accommodate longer playback times, reducing the amplitude of the recorded signal.

Why We Do Test Pressings and why it is important?
During the vinyl record manufacturing process, test pressings play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of the final product. Test pressings serve as a preliminary step before mass production, allowing manufacturers and artists to evaluate the sound and overall quality of the vinyl disc.
Once the lacquer master, which contains the audio information, is cut into a metal stamper, it is used to press a small number of test vinyl records. These test pressings are created to verify that the audio has been accurately transferred onto the physical medium and to identify any potential issues or flaws in sound quality, such as distortion, surface noise, or imbalances.
Artists and mastering engineers carefully listen to these test pressings, scrutinising the audio for fidelity, dynamic range, frequency response, and overall tonal balance. They may compare the test pressings to the original master recordings to ensure that the vinyl captures the intended sound accurately.
Test pressings also allow for adjustments to be made, if necessary. If any issues are detected, the mastering engineer or artist can provide feedback to the vinyl pressing plant, who will then make the necessary adjustments to achieve the desired sound quality.
Moreover, test pressings are not only important for quality control but also for a final aesthetic evaluation. Artists and labels may examine the physical appearance of the test pressings, assessing the alignment of center labels, the quality of the vinyl material itself, and the overall presentation.
Since test pressings are limited in number, they hold a unique value among collectors and enthusiasts. Often they are considered rare and sought after due to their limited availability and historical significance in the vinyl manufacturing process.
In summary, test pressings serve as a vital quality control step in the vinyl record manufacturing process. They allow for the evaluation of sound quality, identification of potential issues, and adjustment if required. They also provide artists and labels with an opportunity to assess the physical appearance and presentation of the vinyl record. Ultimately, test pressings ensure that the final product meets the high standards expected by artists and audiophiles alike.
I am not happy with the Test Pressing. What should I do?
When encountering issues with test pressings of your vinyl record, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:
- Evaluate Audio Systems: Begin by listening to the test pressings on different audio systems. This step helps to determine whether the issue is specific to a particular setup or if it is present across multiple systems. Additionally, consider trying another cartridge or stylus to rule out any potential equipment related problems.
- Contact Us for Further Support: If the issues persist and are indeed present on the test pressing, we encourage you to contact us. Our team is dedicated to ensuring your satisfaction and delivering high quality pressings. By reaching out to us, we can assess the situation and work together to identify any potential improvements that may be needed.

What is a vinyl record made from?
Vinyl records are made from a type of plastic called polyvinyl chloride (PVC). PVC is mixed with various additives to make it suitable for the manufacturing process of vinyl records. These additives can include lubricants, stabilisers, and colourants. The PVC compound is then formed into a flat disc shape, commonly referred to as a “biscuit” or “puck.” This biscuit is subsequently heated and placed between two stampers, which press the grooves into the melted vinyl, creating the unique spiral pattern that contains the audio information. Once the vinyl cools and solidifies, it becomes a sturdy and durable medium for playing back music on analog turntables. Vinyl records have gained popularity among music enthusiasts for their warm sound characteristics and nostalgic appeal.
What sizes of vinyl records can we press?
We offer a range of vinyl record sizes to cater to different preferences. We are proud to press 7 inch, 10 inch, and 12 inch vinyl records, each with their own unique charm and usage. Among these formats, the 12 inch vinyl records are the most commonly sought after.

What is causing warped vinyl records?
Vinyl records have a tendency to warp when they are packed too soon after the pressing process. It is crucial for each vinyl record to undergo a cooling period after pressing to ensure proper stabilisation. Unfortunately, many inexperienced production facilities neglect this essential step, resulting in warped records that are unplayable.
At Press2Vinyl, we prioritise quality control to deliver exceptional vinyl records. We understand the importance of allowing sufficient time during the production process for the records to cool and stabilise. This commitment to quality may make our production process slightly more expensive, but it guarantees the superior quality you desire.
Imagine the disappointment of seeing your release on the shelves, only to find that all the records are warped and unusable. We recognise this concern, which is why we make it one of our highest priorities. With Press2Vinyl, you can rest assured that our meticulous attention to detail ensures your vinyl records are of the highest caliber.
